waterside cycling challenge

Water View: find a blue horizon on your bike ride

Water View is an exploration quest that asks you to photograph a bicycle near a lake, river, canal, sea or another clearly visible body of water. The scene should communicate both the ride and the water without requiring a caption to explain where each element is.

A useful fit
Riders who want a landscape-led destination or scenic pause.

What is this challenge?

Water changes the feel of a route: it opens the view, catches the light and often creates a natural pause. This quest gives that pause a collectible purpose.

What is the objective?

Reach a clear water view during the ride and include the bicycle in the photograph.

How do you complete it?

Show enough water for the setting to be recognisable, while keeping the bike distinct from railings, vegetation or shoreline clutter.

What proof is required?

One photo is sufficient. A balanced landscape frame often gives both subjects room and avoids reducing the water to a small background strip.

Practical tips

  • Use a shoreline, towpath or bank as a line that connects the bike to the water.
  • Check reflections and glare so the water surface does not disappear into a bright sky.
  • Keep the horizon level if you use a wide view.

A cautious way to approach the quest

Remain on stable permitted ground, keep back from unprotected edges and never place the bike where it could roll toward the water.
